What was supposed to be my first interview after a long gap of four years turned to be a big blooper. Not that I had prepared myself so hard for this selection of students for the 3 months certificate course in Finance. But I expected a basic level of questioning by the panel...whew..panel??? there was only one lady who would be the faculty and all she managed to ask was why I was interested in Finance and how it would suit my career? Understood that this course is for the Finance newbies, but there are a lot more questions, apart from the Finance sector, that can be asked to make this ‘detailed interview’ purposeful. There is no reason to travel 10 kms on a Sunday morning (not to mention the full formals and polished shoes) to attend this stuff. The short listing was done to a large extent (if not fully) based on the profile submitted with the application. If that was already decided to be the mode of selection, why at all bother the selected candidates with such an eye-wash?
All this resentment aside, it is interesting to note that my profile merited a short listing!!!To add to that, my XAT score was out last week...a decent yet surprising 93%..and as is the case always, I have not applied to any institutes accepting XAT!!!Will see if there are any schools that are still open...another chain of events that I hoped would not occur this time..If I had saved all the money that I had invested for the management exams, admission brochures over the past 2 years, I would have bought my Electra 5S without second thoughts. Am happy though, and hope to break jinx this time...will even be able to stand upside down if I get into some ok-sort-of B-school this time..after all I am looking at a break from this stupid work and not at top of line B-schools (not much proof is required after all these attempts to prove that I don’t deserve to be there)...
